Second Mountain shortlisted for trio of Creative Bath Awards

Wiltshire-based purpose-driven comms consultancy Second Mountain is a finalist in three categories at the 2024 Creative Bath Awards, following a year that has seen the independent agency strategically pivot its offering with a heightened focus on content creation.

The business, run by Chartered PR Practitioner Ben Veal, will be in the running for a trio of categories at 2024’s event, being held at Bath’s Komedia next month.

Second Mountain has been named a finalist for the ‘Creativity for Good’ category, for ‘Founder and Entrepreneur’ for its founding director, and for ‘Content Creator’, a brand new category that looks to celebrate businesses that are committed to producing engaging content for themselves, clients or for online communities.

Since mid-2022, Second Mountain has been creating its Good Journeys podcast and YouTube show, which has grown from strength-to-strength over three seasons and over thirty episodes.

Good Journeys with Second Mountain shares the lessons learned from trails travelled through in-depth, honest conversations with inspiring guests from all walks of life, including to date: Sir Terry Waite KCMG CBE, bestselling children’s author Rachel Bright, Wilthire-based neurodiversity champion and author Pete Wharmby and happiness coach Sarah Perrett.

Much more than a podcast, each episode of the show is a multifaceted piece of content, published across all major platforms as a audio podcast episode but also professionally produced by Cambridgeshire-based Tall Oak Productions for YouTube, brought to life in engaging short clips for Instagram, TikTok and other social channels, subtitled to support accessibility, and summarised with supporting editorial content.

Ben Veal, founder of Second Mountain Comms, says:“The approach that’s been taken with all of Second Mountain’s content creation over the past two years has been with a view to meeting audiences where they’re at. Everyone consumes content differently these days, and through the way that the show is produced and shared, we’re making sure that the widest possible audience has the opportunity to hear the stories of our guests and take away some useful life lessons for the future.”

Following the success of the first two seasons of Good Journeys, Second Mountain took its content creation a step further in late 2023 with the introduction of a second show, Wrestling Life with Ben Veal: a specialist production aimed at the niche — but very wide-reaching — global professional wrestling audience.

Once again diving deep into long-form, honest conversations, guests of the new show so far include 1996 Olympic Gold Medal winner and multi-tme WWE champion Kurt Angle, and Marc Mero, a former professional wrestler who, for the past two decades, has been working with real purpose with his non-profit organisation 'Champion of Choices' as America’s leading schools speaker, supporting young people both in the US and globally with big, timely topics including self-confidence, bullying, self-harm and depression.

Ben Veal adds:“At the heart of each and every single conversation that I have with my guests is purpose: why do they do what they do, what drives them, and what have they learnt along the way. As a journalist, these have always been the aspects of business that have fascinated me most — now, it’s a professional joy and a privilege to share the stories of so many good people via Second Mountain’s two shows, and it’s a huge honour to be a Creative Bath Awards finalist this year.”

The latest awards shortlisting follow four years of continued growth for the business, which has worked with over 20 clients internationally since being founded in 2020. Last year, Ben Veal won the UK’s national CIPR EXCELLENCE Award for ‘Independent PR Practitioner of the Year’; Second Mountain is also a previous Creative Bath award winner, after being named ‘Start Up of the Year’ in 2022.

Second Mountain’s primary goal is to help good people do good. The independent business, based at Wiltshire’s Glove Factory Studios in Holt, specialises in working with charities, not-for-profits and purpose-driven business leaders.
